Dr. Sarah K. Ebeling

  • Founder and Owner of Wink
  • Former State Jump Rope Record Holder

  • Sees patients of All Ages at Our Chanhassen Location

Dr. Sarah is the founder and owner of Wink Family Eye Care, where she provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. Originally from Northeast Iowa, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa before completing her Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. During her time at ICO, she was awarded clinical honors in every rotation—including pediatrics, contact lenses, low vision, and ocular disease—and was inducted into several academic honor societies in recognition of her achievements.

Among her most impactful educational experiences was a service trip to El Salvador, where she joined a team of optometrists and student doctors to deliver vision care and glasses to individuals with limited access to healthcare.

After graduation, Dr. Sarah settled in the Twin Cities with her husband James, a Bloomington native. They live in the west metro area with their two children and are active members of both the Chanhassen community and the Minnetonka school district.

Dr. Sarah has clinical interests in pediatric eye care, myopia management, dry eye disease, ocular pathology, and complex contact lens fittings. Her own experience wearing glasses at a young age sparked a lasting passion for myopia control and helping children maintain healthy vision as they grow.

Outside the clinic, she enjoys traveling with her family, reading, exploring new recipes, and hopelessly working on her pickleball game.

Dr. Roman Gerber

  • Selected as Young Optometrist of the Year in 2017 by the Minnesota Optometric Association
  • Former marathon runner
  • Sees patients of all ages at our SLP location

Dr. Roman and his family immigrated to St. Louis Park when he was four years old. After growing up in the Twin Cities, he attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned degrees in Biology and Economics with a Mathematical Emphasis. His interest in optometry was sparked by watching his grandfather struggle with blindness caused by macular degeneration and wartime trauma.

At the Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Roman received multiple leadership and academic scholarships and participated in the Clinical Honors Program. After graduating in 2011, he ran two optometry clinics in Chicago before returning to Minnesota, where he joined Dr. Sarah at Apple Valley Eye Care.

His passion for international optometry began during a service trip to Honduras in 2010. Since then, he has led charitable eye care clinics in rural India, Mexico, Thailand, and Peru, and collaborated on establishing sustainable clinics in The Gambia, a small country in West Africa.

Dr. Roman takes pride in providing high-level care for a wide range of eye conditions, including dry eye disease, specialty contact lenses, keratoconus, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages and has a particular interest in myopia control for children and teens.

Committed to advancing the profession, Dr. Roman has served as a Trustee for the American Optometric Association and as Legislative Chair for the Minnesota Optometric Association.

When he’s not reading journal articles on ocular disease, Dr. Roman enjoys playing tennis and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Dr. Katie Hansen (Schneider)

  • Former collegiate soccer player (Go, Bulldogs!)
  • Handles complex contact lens fittings with ease
  • Sees patients of all ages at our Chanhassen and SLP locations

Dr. Katie, originally from Brookings, South Dakota, completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Minnesota Duluth. During her time in Duluth, Dr. Katie also played on the Bulldogs women’s soccer team. She then moved across the country to Houston, Texas to attend optometry school and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry.

While in optometry school, Dr. Katie went on a mission trip to Guerrero City, Mexico, where she worked with optometrists, ophthalmologists and other student clinicians in performing comprehensive eye exams and determining cataract surgery candidacy for hundreds of rural patients.

During her clinical rotations, she trained extensively in the art of specialty contact lens evaluations, including scleral lenses. She also pursued training in the management of pre/post-operative cataract surgery patients and those with ocular diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and age related macular degeneration.

In her free time, Dr. Katie loves traveling with her husband, exploring local restaurants, and going on walks with her puppy, Filson!

After earning her degree in 2018, Dr. Suzette served as an active-duty optometrist in the U.S. Army, stationed in Tacoma, WA. There, she provided comprehensive eye care to active-duty soldiers, their families, veterans, and retirees. She also managed an off-site clinic focusing on deployment readiness for her fellow soldiers. Following her three-year service commitment, Dr. Suzette returned to her home state of Minnesota to establish her roots.
